The nutritive value of silage made from Poa pratensis ssp.alpigena and Phleum pratense. 5. Amines in silage made from first cut of Poa pratensis or Phleum pratense [also include tyramine, cadaverine, putrescine, spermidine, spermine]

It was decided to conduct amine analysis of silage because of the potential toxicity to the animal. The silage was analysed for histamine, cadaverine, putrescine, spermine and spermidine. The content of histamine, tyramine, cadaverine and putrescine was higher in silage made from Poa pratensis ssp.alpigena (cv.'Holt') than in Phleum pratensis (cv.'Bodin'). In two experiments the spermidine content was higher in Poa, while it was highest in Phleum in one experiment. Spermine did not show any systematic difference between species. The content of histamine was about twice in Poa compared with Phleum
