The study deals with the preliminary assessment of thermal areas in Palawan as sources of geothermal energy based on chemical analysis of hot spring waters with the application of chemical geothermometers for estimating the sub-surface (reservoir) temperatures of the hot water. Evaluation of gathered data delineated two areas worthy of further exploratory work: the Sta. Lourdes-Tagburos and the El Nido Thermal Areas. The Sta. Lourdes-Tagburos area is recommended as first priority for exploration to confirm and define the different elements necessary for the existence of potential geothermal systems. The silica geothermometers disclosed a moderate range of temperature which is suitable to low temperature power generation while the Na/K and Na-Ca-K geothermometer indicated a higher range suitable to the present method of geothermal power generation
