Studies in Philippine grass and grasslands research are on-going to update the taxonomy of Philippine grasses. Its aims are primarily to increase the national average yield of crop production per hectare of rice and corn and to develop wheat hybrids adapted to tropical conditions. Investigations are also done on the uses of grasses in medicine and in soil conservation. Researchers from UPLB have been investigating the ecology of Philippine natural grasslands. BAI and other government agencies are active in the campaign for the development and management of cultivated pastures to increase the livestock carrying capacity per hectare
