Incidence of aflatoxin in pre and post harvest groundnuts with different preservation and storage life from different locations was studied. [Samples were collected by means of multistage Random Sampling from Lampang Province as the representative of pre-harvesting period.] Two groups of samples were collected, at one week before harvesting and at harvesting period. The results showed no aflatoxin occurrence in the first group, and only three out of forty in the second with aflatoxin contents of 20, 20, and 30 ppb. Two groups of random samples, unshelled and shelled, were collected from middle men as the representative of post-harvesting period. Samples of unshelled groundnuts were collected in one week, one month, and one year of storage life. Aflatoxin was found in every storage life with the range of 30-75 ppb. Samples of shelled groundnut were collected in three grades. The results showed that aflatoxin content are about 20-50 ppb. in the first grade, 30-350 ppb. in the second, and 75-1,350 ppb. in the third grade. Screening of groundnut genotypes for aflatoxin resistance was also done in cooperation with breeders. Seeds of groundnut lines supplied by the Kalasin Field Crops Experiment Station were inspected for Aspergillus flavus infection, and also inoculated with A. flavus. Results indicated varietal differences for fungus development, and some lines showed a tendency to have aflatoxin resistance.
