Peasant farms in economic and social crisis: The case of Poland in the 1980's
1985
Zegar, J.S.
The paper analyzes the course of adjustment processes which took place in peasant farms in Poland in response to the dramatic changes of the external economic conditions which had taken place in Poland during the economic crisis in the early 1980's. It was found that peasant farms manifested a considerable adjustment potential, operating a number of defense mechanisms. The latter are affected in a system of a centrally planned economy by the goals and instruments of State policy. The latter favored on one hand the protection of the consumption levels achieved previously by the population but on the other it constrained the pro-productivity adjustment processes in peasant farms
