Utilization of soil taxonomic classification in rating the productivity of Laguna soils [Philippines]
1986
Nicor, F.P.
Out of the twenty eight soil mapping units, eleven were classified under Alfisol, eight under Inceptisol, five under Vertisol, three under Ultisols and one under Entisols. Among the soil mapping units, Lipa clay loam, an Alfisol, has the highest productivity rating. General, Alfisols are highly productive due mostly to their well developed structure and loamy surface texture which favor better aeration and better water movement. Also, base saturation of all Alfisols is relatively high. Based on the model, Vertisols generally have the lowest productivity rating. Apparently, this is due to poor drainage condition and clay content of most Vertisols. To test the validity of the model, predicted yield of corn and coconut were compared with available yield data. The predicted yield of corn were observed to be lower than the actual yield data. For coconut, however, the predicted yields generally exceed actual yields
