Diurnal changes in the hematological indices in the blood of racing Arabian horses

Changes in the number and size of red and white blood cells, sedimentation rate and haemoglobin content were studied. All the cells showed distinct diurnal changes in the parameters examined, but did not fulfil the conditions of the circadian rhythm according to Halberg. The majority of peaks occurred during the dark phase of 24h period excepting the percentage of eosinophils, erythrocyte diameter and erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Mares displayed higher mean diurnal blood values than stallions
