Field studies on okra fruit productivity and harvest duration showed that with early varieties, edible fruits can be harvested at 3-day intervals for 35 days out of a total crop growth period of 108 days. The rate of fruit production was sigmoidal. For efficient use of labour, harvests should therefore be limited to the first 13 harvests within six weeks after the first flower opening during which about 90 % of the total fruit yield is expected. The fruit production pattern of these varieties was essentially similar in both early and late season plantings, although the periodic and total fruit yields were influenced by season and crop culture, unirrigated late season plantings producing lower yields
