Soil temperatures above 30 degrees C induced significant wilting and weight loss in transplanted seedlings raised from true potato seed. Such soil temperatures also predisposed transplants to damping-off caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn, sclerotial stage of Thanatephorus cucumeris (Frank) Donk. The implications of reducing soil temperatures on control of damping-off in seedlings are discussed
