In a 16 x 16 full diallel, non-additive component of genetic variance for oil content was predominant over the additive component in Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (Linn.) Czern. and Coss. subsp. juncea Linn.]. Additive-dominance model was found adequate. Gene frequency and the distribution of dominant and recessive genes in the parental lines were found unequal. For each recessive gene there were 3 dominant genes, the value of d and h was consistent and did not vary independently over loci. 'RLM 218' x 'T 5' cross was found to be the most desirable in obtaining selections with improved oil content
