Puntius gonionotus (Bleeker) an exotic herbivorous and fast growing freshwater fish, suitable for farming because of its high yield potential. The fish spawns in rivers but it does not breed in stagnant waters. Therefore, present studies of homone-induced spawning of pond reared brooders were carried out in an attempt to develop and investigate most viable techniques under controlled hatchery conditions for mass propagation and seed production of the species. A total of 24 induced spawning experiments of the fish were conducted during this study period (29 June-28 July, 1986). The female fish (230-300g) was given single injection of 2-5mg acetone dried PG per one kilogram body weight and the male fish (200-300g) was given only 2mg PG per one kilogram body weight. About 100% success was achieved in induced ovulation and spawning hapas within 4-6 hr at the ambient temperature ound 28 degree C after decisive injection.
