Length-girth relationships and fishery of silver Jew, Johnius argentatus (Houttuyn) [Bangladesh]

The total length-standard length relationship was established as Log S.L.= 0.16709+1.05553 Log T.L. and Log T.L.=1.5345 + 0.95083 Log S.L. In length-girth relationship the equation was found to be Log Girth = -0.50543 + 1.15611 Log T.L. for males and Log Girth = -0.48946 + 1.14811 Log T.L. for females. A total of 2,81813 and 3,53,396 kg of J. argentatus fish contributing 25.6% and 23.9% of the total catch were landed during July, 1978 to June, 1979 and July, 1979 to June, 1980 respectively at the Fish Harbour Complex, Chittagong, Bangladesh.
