An alloplasmist with self-fertility was obtained from barley x wheat hybrids with wheat as the recurrent backcross in Bc3. The phenotype of the alloplasmic plants resembled male parent. In comparison with the recurrent parent Ning 7840, they were vigorous in growth and early maturity. The somatic chromosome number of self-fertility plant showed: 2n=43. Meiotic studies revealed a high frequent of bivalent and low occurrence of univalents at metaphase I (21 and 0.32 per PMC respectively). Date on fertility and agronomic attributes were presented. Their potential usefulness in wheat improvement were discussed.
