A study on the indexes of water requirement in growing trees of sweet orange was conducted in the field and pot conditions from 1981 to 1983. The results showed that the soil moisture content from August to October had a direct influence on the third peak of fruit growing. During this period, the soil moisture content in rootzone should be maintained in the range of 20-25% (equals to 78% of the field capacity). The soil moisture content of less than 20% could be considered as the index of soil moisture for irrigation during growing period. The leaf water potential of -7.09 bar, and the leaf water saturation deficit of 6% could be considered as the physiological indexes for irrigation during growing period.
