The level of cytokinin (CTK) and gibberellin (GA) in the xylem sap in relation to floral initiation of 20 year-old Japanese apricot was studied. Floral initiation (FI) and floral primordia formation started approximately 15 and 60 days, respectively after the cessation of spur growth. The levels of more and less polar GA in xylem sap decreased to the minimum at the beginning of FI, which led to sharp increase of the ratio of CTK/GA, reaching two peaks at the middle and the end, respectively. The concentration of zeatin in the xylem sap increased during the floral primordia formation. The significance of the results was discussed in this paper.
