Comparisons were made among those treatments under the condition of entirely artificial light, and a common sunlight-fluorescent lamp was taken as the control. The results show that light quality response of seedlings of cucumber and tomato is almost the same. In red light, seedlings get maximum of dry mattter accumulation, leaf area expansion, photosynthesis rate, chlorophyll content, soluble sugar content, total sugar content. Ratio of chlorophyll a/b, total nitrogen content, however, are lower in red light. Two kinds of seedlings have different response to light quality in quantity, maybe due to different original places with different light environment where they came from. Seedlings grew a little better in mixture of red light and blue light than in red light.
