A method for the evaluation of herbicide systemic action in the perennial grasses Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon) and Jointgrass (Paspalum paspalodes) is described. According to this method the apical section of 50-60 cm long shoots are sprayed and the germination ability of the 1-4 bud sections of the unsprayed shoots are tested at various time intervals following the herbicide application. The efficacy of the method was checked with the herbicides Glyphosate, Fluazifop-butyl and Dowco-453. It was found that Glyphosate was translocated to a distance of 36 cm and killed the unsprayed buds 8 hours after the spraying of the Bermuda grass shoots. A significant translocation of the herbicides Fluazifop-butyl and Dowco-453 was also observed 9 hours after the spraying of the Jointgrass shoots
