Trend in nutritional status of children in Western Jamaica (1973-1984): The role of economic development
1987
Melville, B. (Ministry of Health (Jamaica))
Malnutrition levels decreased by approximately 50 % in the parishes of Hanover and St. James from 1973-1975. In Hanover, malnutrition levels remained constant at 6 % from 1975-1984. In St. James, malnutrition levels increased from 4.5 to 9.3 % for 1976-1978, remained unchanged to 1982 but increased to 10.2 % by 1984. The nutritional status of children appeared to be influenced by economic changes but as in the case of Hanover, can be positively improved by Community Health Programmes
