[Economic analysis of farms producing vegetables under plastic houses condition in Baq'aa region [study questionnaire; random sample of farmers selected for personal interviews on costs and returns]]

The main objective of the study was to conduct an economic analysis of the farms producing vegetables under plastic houses in Baq'aa region.The results indicated that the total fixed costs presented about 20.56% of total costs, seeds and seedlings 8.01%, chemical and organic fertilizers 8.41%, chemicals 8.40%, water 5.15%, manual and machinery labour - 16.33%, marketing costs 3.75%, and other costs - 5.15%. In addition, the annual average return per plastic house in Baq'aa region was estimated to be 1576.260 JD. The results of the efficiency measure indicated that the optimal farm size falls in the farm category of 51 - 60 plastic houses, which favors the optimal farm size of 55 plastic houses. A proposal of an enterprise for vegetable production under plastic houses in Baq'aa was made, based on the optimal efficient farm size that has been previously found and determined. A financial analysis was used for this proposed enterprise using B/C ratio. NPV, IRR, operating ratio, net/profit returns ratio, B/TVC ratio by incorporating risk in form of standard deviation in the analysis to capture the changes that might happen. The results of the financial analysis indicated that the enterprise (project) is economically feasible and can earn returns that very much exceed the interest given by the banks at present time
