The effect of shading of flowering and yield of groundnut at Samaru (Nigeria)
1986
Owonubi, J.J. | Yusuf, Y. (Institute for Agricultural Research, Samaru, Zaria (Nigeria))
At various growth stages of the crop groundnut plants were artificially shaded to reduce incoming solar radiation by about 30% in order to simulate the shading effect of intercropping. Shading during the vegetative phase significantly reduced flowering while shading after the vegetative phase did not affect flowering but reduced pod yield. Flowering was suppressed in plots shaded only during the period from sowing to the beginning of flowering but pod yield in these plots was similar to that in unshaded plots
