The effect of a high fertilization level (280-1120 kg NPK per 1 ha) of the intensively utilized pasture on the content of nonprotein nitrogen, including nitrates, in the daily ration of dairy cows was investigated. An intensive mineral fertilization from 24 up to 96 N/ha for each regrowth increased the content of both nonprotein nitrogen and N-NO3 in the pasture sward. Nevertheless the daily level of nitrates in blood of cows was medium high and only in some cases exceeded the admissible value. No clinical pathologic symptoms in cows fed in intensively fertilized pastures were found
