In order to provide the technical bases for increasing forage production and utilization, an on-farm trial was conducted at the Stanislaus College Dairy Farm to determine the effect of N fertilizer and different cutting intervals on the green matter production of Antelope grass (E. polystachya), under wet lowland soil conditions typical of coastal Guyana. Using a split plot design, no differences were detected for fertilizer applications. Highest forage yields were obtained from 4.7 t/ha at the 21 day interval to 7.9 t/ha at the 35 day interval. For all cutting intervals maximum production occurred after the onset of the rainy season, with 15.2 t/ha being obtained from the 35 day cutting. The implications of these preliminary results for future on-farm testing and their possible impact on the pasture management programme at this commercial unit are discussed
