Biochemical and nutritional qualities of rubber-seed meal
1987
Nwokolo, E. (Rivers State Univ. of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt (Nigeria))
Ether extract fractions of rubber-seed meal (RSM) were analysed for saponification, iodine and peroxide values and free fatty acid content. Undefatted RSM contained 47.98 % ether-extractable material and 20.21 % protein. Of the fatty acids rubber-seed oil had high linolenic, oleic and stearic acids but moderate linoleic and low myristic acids and would therefore be suitable for soap and paint manufacture and after winterization, salad dressing and mayonnaise production, but unsuitable for frying. It was high in the amino acids arginine, valine and leucine, moderate in serine, threonine, isoleucine and lysine and low in histidine and methionine
