This paper presents the results of the effect of ACTH upon the level of glucose, ketonuria, concentration of thyroxine, triiodothyronine and cortisol in the blood of ketotic cows. The daily injection of ACTH (25 I.U. / 100 kg of body weight) during 3 days, in ketotic cows caused an increase of blood glucose level after 4 hours by 15%, after 8 hours by 26% and after 24 hours by 40%. Second injection of ACTH the next day caused further increase of glucose in blood. The third injection did not increase the glucose concentration. The concentration of total thyroxine in ketotic cows was lower than the normal value and did not change significantly after the administration of ACTH. The concentration of triiodothyronine was very low in ketotic cows and decreased after the ACTH administration. The level of cortisol was very low in ketotic cows but it increased 4 hours after the ACTH administration to reduce later again.
