Malek, M.A. | Ali, M.R. | Malek, M.A. (Bangladesh Agricultural Research Inst., Gazipur (Bangladesh). Cotton Section)
Heterotic effect in 10 crosses involving 5 upland cotton varieties are reported for days to maturity, stem height, number of good bolls picked/plant and weight of seed cotton/plant. All the cross combinations were earlier than the mid parent and the commercial variety. Five cross combinations showed significant heterotic performance for earliness than the better parent. Six F(1) hybrids emerged as shorter than the commercial variety. Significant positive mid-parent heterosis, heterobeltiosis and useful heterosis were recorded for number of good bolls/plant in six, four and five combinations respectively. Almost all cross combinations yielded significantly higher seed cotton/plant over the mid parent, better parent and the commercial variety.
