Seed of 170 lots of peanut c.v. Giza 4 were collected from four districts of Sharkia Governorate during 1981/92 and 1982/83 seasons to evaluate their viability and vigour. The results indicated highly significant differences for the germination, good seedling and TZ-potential percentages among the seed lots collected. Also seedling length results revealed highly significant differences among the seed lots collected. In addition, 100-seed weight and seed diameter results showed highly significant differences among the seed lots with considerable variation for 100-seed weight ranged from 58.97 to 79.32 gm and from 57.90 to 77.77 gm for the two seasons, respectively. Positive highly sigificant correlation coefficients were obtained between germination and ash of good seedling and TZ potential percentages. Also, good seedling percentage weightly significant correlated with each of seedling length and 100-seed weight.
