This investigation was carried out at Bahtim Agricultural Research Station during two successive seasons 1982 and 1983 to elucidate the effect of planting dates on growth, yield earliness, yield components and fiber properties of some Egyptian and American cotton varieties namely Giza 75, Mc Nair 308, and Stonevill 256. Delay of sowing decreased values of all growth attributes and earliness characters for all varieties. Number of total open bolls, and seed cotton yield per plant decreased with delay of planting dates. Delay of planting to April 10th was accompanied by increase in the actual number of plants at harvest and seed cotton yield per faddan for the two American cotton varieties only. Lint percentage, seed index and fiber length were not influenced by planting dates.
