Choice of the most suitable nitrogen source for increasing the fungal biomass as well as the protein production by Trichoderma harzianum growth on pretreated rice straw was preformed. Urea was greatly assimilated than other nitrogen sources. The addition of urea in conjuncture with ammonium sulphate in a ratio 1:1 gave a fungal yield of 8.7 g/1. with 30.4% crude protein and 2.6 g/L. total protein. Corn steep liquor used at a level of 20 ml% (equivalent to 400 mg N/L) greatly improved the fungal yield to 11.4 g/L. and protein content to 51.1%. Studying the amino acid profile of the biomass yield revealed the presence of 18 amino acid including all essential amino acids. Furthermore, the amino acid composition of Trichoderma harzianum approaches that of soybean meal and can be used as a supplement to plant protein in animal feed.
