The response to chlormequat of winter barley growing at different temperatures
1986
Saleh, M.E. (Aberdeen Univ. (UK). Faculty of Agriculture) | Naylor, R.E.L.
Three experiments were conducted in 1983 to investigate the effect on root and shoot growth of winter barley (cv. Igri) to the growth regulator chlormequat when applied to young plants growing at different temperatures. It was achieved from experiment (1) that the shoot characters, leaf area, leaf number, leaf dry weight, shoot dry weight and tiller number were all depressed by lower soil temperatures (5 C). Application of chlormequat at either Gs 13 or Gs 15 later produced significantly more leaves, larger leaf area, more tillers and a higher total dry weight (achieved by an increase in root dry weight).
