Ethylene evolution, CO2 production and some endogenous compounds in relation to bud dormancy of pear trees [Egypt]

The relationship between vegetative bud dormancy of pear trees and ethylene, CO2 production and some endogenous compounds was studied in Le Conte and Pineapple pear cvs., throughout two seasons. Buds remained dromant from Nov. 15th till the end of Jan., then started to burst. Buds of Pineapple cv. reached full burst earlier than those of Le Conte cv. Ethylene evolution in buds increased gradually during the period of deep dormancy reaching a maximum before bud break. However, CO2 production decreased gradually reaching a minimum before bud break. Bud content of total indoles and total soluble sugars decreased, while soluble phenols increased in deep dormant buds. Total free amino acids increased sharply during Dec., then decreased gradually till bud break in March.
