PRID (Progesterone Releasing Intravaginal Device - Abbott, France) spiral was used in 142 cows at different points of time after calving to promote the conception. The device was introduced into the vagina at the 11th day after heat and it was kept there for 12 days. Insemination was carried out at the 48th and 72nd hours after removal of the device. This resulted in the prolonged luteal phase of the estrous cycle. Better conceptional results were obtained by the removal of the device than by the regular use: of 142 cows, 105 conceived (73.9 per cent) with a semen index of 2.74. Treatment, carried out within the 40th postpartum day, was found extremely effective: 80 per cent of animals conceived.
