Abdul-Nabi, M. (Ministry of Agriculture, Amman (Jordan))
In the last two decades there has been a rapid change in the sector of fruit trees in Jordan. This increase was not restricted to the traditional fruit tree crops (olives and grapes) but it also included other fruit tree crops, especially apples and peaches. This rapid development was accompanied by an increasing demand of nursery stock, which has been covered either through local production or through imports. This paper deals with the different aspects of this development in the fruit trees sector. In addition, an attempt is undertaken to point out some of the positive and negative aspects of this agricultural sector. A further look in the future is discussed
