A study on the present situation and purpose of private forest ownerships in agricultural villages

These studies were conducted to find out the present situations and purpose of small-scale private forest ownerships about forest practices. The necessary information was gathered by interviewing 113 private forest owners in Kochanggun Kyong Nam. By the origins, types and purpose of small-scale private forest ownerships, about 70 % of forest ownership were for ancestor's forest and about 81 % of private owners intended to enlarge their properties. The private forest owners who have below 15.0 ha forest lands were about 92 % of total and above 15.1 ha forest lands were about 8 % of total. Most of private owners were far from proper forest management, because the owners who intended to plant trees at their own expense, were not more than about 19 % of total.
