The effectiveness of integrating detasseling technique with Bacillus thuringiensis var kurstaki (Bactospeine) spraying or releasing of predatory earwig Euborellia stali for controlling corn borer was evaluated in the field. Whorl spraying with Bactospeine (600 g/ha), detasseling 75% of the plants (3 rows for every 4 rows) and spraying the remaining 25% plants with intact tassels also with Bactospeine (150 g/ha) effectively reduced corn borer damage and population resulting in greater yield and economic return. Mid and late whorl release of predatory earwig (18,333 earwig/ha) and detasseling 75% of corn plants caused 20 to 45% damage reduction. Based on yield and economic return, this control combination is also effective and profitable.
