The experiments with Pola and Sowa varieties were done. The influence of various potassium rates (KCl), applied in autumn, autumn-spring, or in spring on the quality of potato tubers was studied. Fertilization with high rates of KCl (200-600 kg K2O per ha) had a negative influence on the contents of dry matter, total nitrogen, vitamin C, and P2O5, while the content of K2O was higher, and the tendency to raw and after cooking discoloration was smaller. Particularly pronounced influence on the afore mentioned changes was occurring, when the KCl was applied in spring. The negative influence of high KCl rates on majority of tuber quality characters studied and lack of positive influence on the yield tubers testifies against applying of so rates, particularly at times when the high dry matter and starch contents are sought
