Micropropagation of thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) from nodal segments

Single mode explants from in vitro derived plants of Thymus vulgaris L. were cultured on modified Nitsch and Nitsch (1969) medium. After 4 weeks well rooted plantlets developed from the explants maintained on NN medium with 10.0 mg/l adenine sulphate, 0.5 mg/l IBA and 40.0 g/l sucroze. Kinetin, BA or 2-iP supplementation (0.05-5.0 mg/l) in the medium did not improve plant development. Regenerated plantlets were transfered to soil. Some strains of thyme were obtained. They differ in morphological features (mS and mF plants) and essential oil content (0.97-1.82 percent). Thymol was the main oil component
