Parasitic fauna of blue halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides (Walbaum, 1972)) from selected areas of the species range
1988
Wierzbicka, J.
The fish individuals examined were caught mainly in the North Atlantic. Detailed parasitologic examinations were made on 261 individuals of blue halibut: 155 individuals caught in the Labrador fishing grounds and 106 individuals caught in the Barents Sea. A total of 22 parasitic species were found in the North Atlantic individuals: the Labrador fishes housed 19 species, while 18 species were revealed in Barents Sea individuals. The North Atlantic faunas contained 2 nematode species pathogenous for man: larvae of Anisakis simplex and Phocanema decipiens. The larvae occured, i.a., in muscles, liver, and gonads of the fish examined. Thus the blue halibut may constitute a potential threat to human health
