Appropriate integrated pest management system for rice: Sriniketan [India] and experience
1991
Dasgupta, M.K.
Since 1975, work on the development of concept and tactics of an appropriate integrated pest management system (AIPM) of rice is in progress in Sriniketan. While defining integrated pest management (IPM) and AIPM we emphasized their basic elements. Instead of the sophisticated computer based monitoring, systems- analytic modelling and communications network in the IPM systems, the AIPM system relies on the judgement of a supervisor at the Pivot, which is embodied with simple mathematical- epidemiological loss assessment and decision making analytic models on multiple pests in the comprehensive sense. Farmers' participation in monitoring is also relied upon and the cooperation within the farmers' community is encouraged. Farmers are trained in monitoring without the aid of gadgets. Fifteen major research areas in AIPM in Sriniketan have been highlighted in the paper
