Growth of rice plants as affected by zinc and iron supply [Kanpur, India]
1990
Tandon, P.K.
The effect of zinc and iron supply on the growth of four varieties of rice viz., IR-20, Jaya, Pusa, 2-21 and IET-1444 was studied. Application of 20 kg ZnSO4/ha caused a significant increase in the height of the plant in all the varieties. Number of leaves varied significantly among the varieties and was differentially influenced by zinc and iron fertilization. Significant enhancement in tiller number was evident at a dose of 20 or 40 kg FeSO4/ha. Application of ZnSO4 increased tiller number in all the varieties, however, while 20 kg ZnSO4/ha was sufficient for a significant enhancement of tillering in Pusa 2- 21 and IET-1444, IR-20 needed 40 kg ZnSO4/ha for the same effect.
