Susceptibility of jute cultivars to Meloidogyne incognita
1989
Mian, I.H. | Ali, M.
Five cultivars of jute (Corchorus spp) namely D-154, CC-45, CVL-1, CVE-3 and O-4 were tested for their susceptibility to a race 2 population of Meloidogyne incognita from tomato in a pot house study. Seeds were sown in pot containing soil infested with the nematode. The resulting plants were allowed to grow for 75 days and data on incidence of root-knot and plant growth were recorded. Based on gall index and number of galls in root systems all the cultivars were graded as susceptible to the parasite. Growth of the plants, in terms of root and shoot weight as well as shoot height was severely reduced due to infection of the parasite. The most severely affected cultivar was O-4.
