To see whether there is any effect of early and late planting and variety on the incidence of foot and root rot disease of wheat. A study was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ishurdi during 1987-88 under field condition. The field was inoculated artificially with Sclerotium rolfsii produced on barley. The experiment was done in split plot design with three varieties Kanchan. Akbar and Agroni sown on different dates using 10 days interval starting from 19th November on the incidence on the disease. Soil temperature was recorded at each date of data recording. In case of infection percentage of the varieties Akbar and Agroni showed less infection than that of Kanchan. The quantum of infection (32.10%) at 19th Nov. Sown crop in general was higher than that of the two dates 29th Nov. (12.70%) and 9th Dec. (18.98%). The grain yield of the different dates did not differ statistically although the yield obtained at 19th Nov. Sowing was 130 kg lower than 29th November 20 kg than 9th December per hector.
