Comparison of the efficiency of different ecosystems proved that under the given ecological conditions it is not possible to eliminate the negative influence of the absence of good forecrops by increased nitrogen fertilizing and by chemical protection. Strong yield decrease was evident in spring barley after cereals, especially in a cereal crop rotation (by 23 per cent maximally). Higher crop heterogenity contributes to the biological balance of a crop rotation. From the ecological and energy points of view the importance of the leguminous crops is permanently increasing. The evaluation of the energy balance showed that a higher effectivity of the intensification factors (nitrogen fertilization, soil cultivation, chemical protection) was achieved in crop rotations with red clover.
