[Study of using veneer and plywood wastes in particle board manufacturing]
1989
Kashanizadah, M. | Doosthoseini, K.
The main purpose in this study was whether it was possible to make particle board out of veneer and plywood wastes. The effects of factors such as the chips thickness, moisture, content of the mat, temperature and press time on the board properties were determined in the first stage of the study. The variable factor in the second stage of the study was the portion of veneer and plywood wastes and the low grade woods used in particle board manufacturing. Four veneer wastes/low woods ratio were used in this study. The results of this study indicated that the boards made of the thinner chips and higher slenderness and contact area ratio had better bending properties and higher density. The water absorption and thickness swelling of such boards were low. By increasing mat moisture content up to 14%, the bending properties, internal bond and dimensional stability improved. The longer the press time specially accompanying the lower press temperature, the better board characteristics would result. The final determination of the study indicated that the best veneer/low wood ratio was the one using 25% veneer and plywood wastes
