Solarisation: organically sterilising the soil

Describes a weed and plant disease control method being used by horticultural and home gardeners in the United States and currently being trialled in New Zealand on a crop of broccoli. The method is called solarisation and involves the trapping of soil moisture beneath a sheet of clear polythene in close contact with the soil. Heat is conducted deep into the soil and sterilization extends up to 30cm
