Impact of declining world market prices on irrigating rice and non-rice crops

This paper analyzed the financial and economic viability of irrigating rice and non-rice crops at declining commodity border prices. Data from 1987 wet and dry seasons IIMI-IFPRI survey were used to compare the financial and economic viability of rice and 5-non rice crops: corn, mungbean, peanut, garlic and onion. Results indicated that garlic and onion had the highest economic potentials in using irrigation water.
