Five pesticide treatments were evaluated to determine their biological activity as grain protectants on paddy stored for 12 months. Insecticide solution was sprayed at the rate of 1 liter per ton into the grain stream to protect the grain from insect infestation during storage. Efficacy of treatments vary with test species. Chlorpyrifos-methyl + permethrin + piperonyl butozide (OB) was best against Rhyzopertha dominica and Tribolium castaneum. Deltametrin also provided protection against R. dominica and T. castaneum but did not work well against Sitophilus oryzae. The most economical treatment was chlorpyrifos-methyl + permethrin + BP. Grain protectant treatment is a very promising technology in preventing the attack and subsequent infestation by insects as it was proven to be economically viable and workable under Philippine conditions.
