Screening of cowpea against bruchid, Calosobruchus chinensis

Twenty-eight entries of cowpea were screened against bruchid. Based on preliminary screening, Vita 4 showed the most promising reaction to the pest. It was observed to have the lowest number of adults counted and consequently, the lowest percent weight loss. This was followed by PI352905 with the lowest number of eggs counted and third to Vita 4 on the number of emerging adult. On the other hand, MS was found to be the most susceptible entry with the highest number of eggs counted and percent weight loss. Another entry which showed susceptibility to the pest was PI-00528.
