Investigations were carried out in the period 1981-84 under production and laboratory conditions. Boron deficiency symptoms in sugar beets were observed in treatments with the highest nitrogen and potassium rates in the years, in which the deficits of atmospheric precipitations occurred in the period of maximum yield increments. High potassium rates resulted in a decrease of the available boron content in soil, mainly in wet years. The boron content in leaves and roots was positively correlated with the sugar content in roots
