Effect of 5 sowing rates (100, 225, 350, 475, and 600 grains per sq. m) on grain yield, reproduction coefficient and yield components of 2 spring Triticale cultivar was investigated in a field experiment, carried out on heavy soil in 1986-88. Reduction of sowing rates from 475 to 350, 225, 100 grains per 1 sq. m resulted in a decrease of grain yield by 2.9 and 24 per cent respectively, while the reproduction coefficient increased from 20 to 27, 39 and 79. The thinner sowing caused a high increment of productive tillering, number of grains per ear and 1000 grain weight what highly compensated the effect of reduced plant density. There were no significant differences in the reaction of cultivars on the decrease sowing rate
