The bromegrass, cocksfoot grass and Italian ryegrass were harvested before heading, at the beginning of heading, and at the beginning of flowering. During the growing period the P and K concentrations in grasses decreased. In the second and third cuts the total content of Na and Mg was higher, but that of Ca only in second cut. The highest content of P, K and Mg was stated in cocksfoot grass and that of Ca and Na in Italian ryegrass. The highest beta-carotene concentration was found in grasses cut at flowering. Its content was higher in bromegrass and cocksfoot than in ryegrass
